The Rock ‘n’ Sock Connection was a team that blended the charisma of the jabroni beating, pie eating, trail blazing, eyebrow raising, People's Champ The Rock and the lovable masochist Mankind – one of the three faces of Mick Foley.

Despite initially starting out as rivals – in a feud that saw the WWE Championship switch back and forth several times – The Rock ‘n' Sock Connection was formed on a 1999 episode of Raw when The Rock challenged both the Big Show and The Undertaker to a two on one match. Much to The Rock's surprise, Mankind interrupted The Rock's promo to inform The Great One that he didn’t have to face them alone and offered his assistance. After reluctantly accepting the offer, The Rock joined forces with Mankind, and the two would go on to beat The Big Show and The Undertaker later that night, capturing the tag team championships in the process.

The duo continued to tag together for two months – during which they were involved in multiple hilarious segments – until they began feuding again following Mankind’s refusal to participate in a match against The Holly Cousins. Foley had found that a signed copy of his autobiography which he'd had given to The Rock as a gift had been thrown in the trash – although he would later learn that it was actually Al Snow who had committed the crime.
