10 Awesome WWE Tag Teams Formed By Main Eventers

3. The Mega Powers

In the 1980s, professional wrestling evolved from being your Dad’s favourite Sunday afternoon telly programme about two overweight men hugging each other in their pants for 10 minutes into an international phenomenon spearheaded by Hulk Hogan, a giant of a man who took his vitamins, said his prayers and hugged another man in his pants for 10 minutes.

While Hogan rose to superstardom as the WWF's main attraction, Macho Man Randy Savage was making a name for himself as one of the best workers in the company – a fact evidenced by his legendary WrestleMania III match against Ricky Steamboat – and on a 1987 episode of Saturday Night's Main Event, the two crossed paths in a historic event.

While The Macho Man was being attacked by the Hart Foundation, Savage's valet (and real-life wife) Elizabeth, rushed backstage to seek aid for her husband, returning with an enraged Hulk Hogan who cleared the ring and saved Savage from any further punishment. Afterwards, The Macho Man offered his hand to Hogan, cementing the alliance between the two Mega Powers of wrestling.

The two continued their allegiance into 1988 until Savage – becoming increasingly irritated at Hogan’s friendly behaviour towards his wife – attacked the Hulkster after he abandoned his partner, to carry an unconscious Elizabeth backstage – setting up a match between the two for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania V and bringing the end of the Mega Powers.
