10 Awesome WWE Tag Teams Formed By Main Eventers

2. The Two-Man Power Trip

At WrestleMania X-Seven, as the Attitude era began to wind down, Stone Cold Steve Austin shocked the world by aligning himself with his arch nemesis, Vince McMahon. Although the heel turn was not received favourably by the fans – Austin himself has publicly expressed his regret at the decision – there was at least one good thing to come out of the angle.

The following night on Monday Night Raw, Triple H confronted McMahon demanding to know why the billionaire had formed an alliance with The Rattlesnake – to which McMahon simply replied that Austin was a winner and Triple H wasn't. During that night's main event – between The Rock and Austin – Triple H entered the ring armed with a sledgehammer, with the apparent intention of using it on Austin. However, to the crowd's surprise, The Game chose to lay the smackdown on The Rock instead – making it clear that Trips was also aligned with McMahon and now with Austin as well.

Known as The Two Man Power Trip, the duo went on a short-lived but dominating run, demonstrating an incredibly vicious style that enabled them to add the Intercontinental and Tag Team Championships to Austin's WWE Championship. Unfortunately, the partnership came to a premature end when they lost the titles to Chris Benoit and Chris Jericho in the infamous match that saw Triple H suffer a legitimate serious injury, putting him out of action for over eight months.
