The WWE audience was taken aback when The Undertaker and Batista pulled off an exhilarating match at WrestleMania 23. The Dead Man and The Animal were determined to have the match of the night (which many believed they did), with both of them having a chip on their shoulder that WWE chose to have John Cena vs. Shawn Michaels headline the event.

It was a hard match to follow for Batista and Undertaker when WWE booked the two to go head-to-head again at the next PPV Backlash. WWE raised the stakes this time too, announcing they would wrestle in a Last Man Standing match.

‘Taker and Batista tore into one another at Backlash, beating each other with steel steps, steel chairs and anything else they could get their hands on at ringside. The Phenom at one point delivered a wild leg drop through the announce table on Batista. An argument can be made both competitors were at their peak here, with Undertaker never being in better shape and Batista coming into his own as a headline performer. It may have ended in a draw but what a spectacular draw it was, with Batista spearing Undertaker off the TitanTron which caused the stage to collapse on both performers.
