8. The Rock (Blue Chipper)

It didn't matter that WWE knew they were onto something special with a young Dwayne Johnson, fans wanted nothing to do with the smiling geek known as 'The Blue Chipper' back in 1996/97.

The potential was there for all to see, mind you.

Johnson had the look, the ability, and the magnetism.

But folks quickly lost interest in the fake grin and corny gimmick, and Rocky Maivia soon endured those infamous "Die, Rocky, Die!" and "Rocky Sucks!" chants in arenas all over the country.

A knee injury would ultimately set the stage for a very much needed change in direction, though, with the first-ever third-generation superstar soon turning his back on the audience upon his return.

That rocky start would then go on to fuel 'The Great One' for the next few years, with his unstoppable charisma and frustration at initially being rejected by the masses combining to eventually produce one of the most captivating and beloved anti-heroes of all time.

Things may not have gone perfectly to plan out of the gate, but as the 'Macho Man' himself once put it, the cream has a funny ol' habit of rising to the top.

Even if that cream comes in the form of a rock... or something.
