10 Best Active Wrestlers Over 40
7. Sting
When Sting announced his retirement at the 2016 WWE Hall of Fame, wrestling fans the world over hoped the Icon was "retiring" in typical pro wrestling fashion. (i.e. take a well-earned sabbatical before coming back swinging). Fortunately, our hopes were fulfilled and the Stinger re-emerged in AEW a few years later.
And lo, there was much rejoicing!
Despite what modern movies would have you believe, people don't want to see the legends of their childhood dragged through the gutter. And nobody wanted their last memory of Sting to be him crumbling under his own weight after a botched buckle-bomb.
Fortunately, AEW resurrected the fallen Icon's career with a textbook example of how to book a wrestling legend. Sting's limited in-ring involvement - where he makes brief, crowd-popping cameos in tag matches - allow the 63-year old to shine without exposing the damage father time has inevitably wreaked on his body.
Sting's eventual, actual retirement is coming sooner rather than later, but at least now his final days in the ring will be remembered fondly.
