5. Hangman Page

Dynamite Kenny Omega

This shouldn't work, but it does.

It hinges entirely on the act. If the New Blackjacks came out to this, it would probably be sh*t, but you can buy into Hangman Page as a cowboy because he exudes the charm and barrel-chested machismo of a proper man's man. His ring work is also delightfully insane/brave, which helps not to undermine everything. He is prone to taking exceptionally brutal bumps, so when Page says he does "cowboy sh*t", you can take him at his word.

'Ghost Town Triumph' is lovely Jimmy Hart Ennio Morricone with another unusual - but not ineffective - approach to the opening sting. The plucked acoustic guitar melody is quiet but insistent, promising an unforgettable emergence - a fortunate mirror of Page's apparent AEW career trajectory, since, again, this was imported from his days in Ring Of Honor.

The swell of string-led western drama is, like Page's moonsault and buckshot lariat, majestic and badass, and that necessary rhythm required to pop a live crowd is provided by a steady, strutting drumbeat - the sound of an imminent reckoning.
