10 Best Anti-American WWE Heels Ever

8. La Resistance (Grenier, Dupree & Conway)

Any time characters bring flags down to the ring that are not American the goal is to get people to boo them as soon as they appear. That's what happened with La Resistance, who teamed together from 2003 to 2005. They were booked as Frenchman even though Dupree & Grenier were Canadians from Quebec. Conway was added to the group because he was a good worker that couldn't get over on his own, so they just said that he joined the others. When Dupree was moved to Smackdown due to WWE wanting to push him as a singles wrestler, Conway & Grenier formed the team. The reason the fans hated the French part of the gimmick was because during the time, the French were criticized for being weak because they had nothing to do with wars going on in Iraq and Afghanistan. It was a big news story, so WWE used the legit heat on France to create wrestling characters based on that. From June 2003 to January 2005 they actually had four Tag Team Title reigns with Conway & Grenier holding them for nearly five months at one point. The group changed from being Frenchman to Quebecers once the heat from the French people died down.
