When Brock Lesnar beat Goldberg at WrestleMania 33 to become Universal Champion, few could have predicted he'd still be the champion nearly a year-and-a-half later.
People thought that Roman Reigns was going to beat him at WrestleMania 34. They were wrong. People thought Roman Reigns was going to beat him in Saudi Arabia. They were wrong again.
So, when SummerSlam 2018 rolled around and Brock and Roman were once again booked to fight for the title, few fans actually believed that the championship would change hands.
After the match was held up by Braun Strowman threatening to cash-in Money in the Bank, Reigns and Lesnar eventually got underway and it was everything fans had come to expect from a Brock main event.
Suplexes, finishers, and a sub-ten minute match time had dominated Lesnar's lengthy reign and fans were sick to death of it. So, when Roman hit an emphatic spear and finally slayed The Beast, they didn't even care that the man they'd been booing for years was now world champion.
Lesnar's iron grip on the Universal Championship had been released and wrestling fans across the world could not have been more thrilled.
