History was made on this night when Randy Orton became the youngest world champion in WWE history.

The Evolution member was battling Chris Benoit in the show's main event; a mouth-watering prospect to any fan of good wrestling. Orton was entering the match with the weight of his mentor, Triple H, on his shoulders. The Game had lost his title to Benoit at WrestleMania and had yet to figure out a way to get it back. Now, he had a chance to return the championship to Evolution.

SummerSlam was also taking place in Canada. To capitalise on this, they had the brilliant idea of putting Earl Hebner in to ref the main event, which paid off big time when Orton put Benoit (who was Canadian, lest we forget) in the Sharpshooter. Orton took down Benoit with the best RKO you'll never see in a WWE hype package, pinning the champ clean as a whistle to become top dog at just 24-years-old.

Orton's first run with the gold might have ended prematurely at the hands of Triple H, but the way in which he won the title was truly special.
