3. Macho Man Randy Savage Vs Ultimate Warrior - SummerSlam '92 (August 1992)

Underrated in part due to their fabled prior encounter and the the aforementioned Bret Hart/British Bulldog match later on the show, the SummerSlam '92 WWE Title match was an absorbing battle that afforded 1980s icons Randy Savage and The Ultimate Warrior a stage their chemistry richly deserved.

The pair's WrestleMania 7 epic merited the 100,000 seater Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum that didn't house the show after dismal ticket sales forced a move to the much smaller Sports Arena, but Savage and Warrior were given WWE's then-biggest ever attendance for their spectacular rematch a year later as a consolation prize.

Added to the mix were Ric Flair and Mr Perfect as ringside foils for their all-babyface encounter. The meddling heels had promised fans that they'd be in the corner of one of their heroes on the night, with an air of mistrust stirred between the career rivals in the build-up as a result.

Working a frantic pace akin to their legendary Los Angeles encounter, both Savage and Warrior performed with guile and speed that betrayed Savage's advancing years and Warrior's inflated frame, with neither able to gain clear advantage until 'The Nature Boy' and his 'Executive Consultant' involved themselves.

After teasing alliances with both men, Flair and Perfect eventually revealed the ruse and annihilated each wrestler separately, saving a particularly brutal beating for a dodgy knee Randy Savage had been selling since their WrestleMania 8 encounter. Cruelly taking advantage of the injured limb, Flair would win the title back just days later.
