10 Best Matches From WWE ECW

8. Hardcore Holly Vs. Rob Van Dam (26 September 2006)

WWE's ECW isn't memorable for too many matches - however, the Extreme Rules bout between Rob Van Dam and Hardcore Holly is a notable exception. The graphic nature of the injury sustained by Holly was a shocking sight - one that saw repeated air time in the "Don't Try This At Home" videos in subsequent years.

After several minutes of back and forth battling, the two men jockeyed for position as both tried to suplex each other. With a table set up outside the ring, Holly lifted RVD high into the air for a huge suplex off the apron. The landing looked brutal and the table crumpled on impact. Weirdly, Holly came off worse.

The connection had caused the broken table to slice the WWE veteran's back wide open, leaving huge gash across his left lat. The laceration left a wound several inches long. It required 24 stitches to close after the match.

Incredibly, the bout continued for several minutes more - including a spot that saw Holly take a suplex onto a steel chair - before RVD walked away victorious. Despite the loss, Hardcore Holly lived up to his moniker, and gained another measure of respect from the fans in the process.
