10 Best Matches From WWE ECW
7. CM Punk Vs. Justin Credible (1 August 2006)
From the same card as the Angle/Brawler match, the debut bout of CM Punk in WWE couldn't have happened under better circumstances. With a smart, knowledgeable and vocal crowd on hand, 'The Second City Saint' received a hero's welcome when he arrived in ECW.
Squaring off with former ECW Champion and a man very familiar with the ECW faithful, Justin Credible, Punk was given credible competition in his maiden voyage in the land of extreme. The crowd were pumped from the opening bell, and clearly very eager to see the Ring of Honor legend make his mark.
With a string of unique offensive moves, Punk did just that. In hindsight, the bout itself probably should have headlined the show, as the scheduled show closer between Batista and Big Show bombed dramatically. Nevertheless, the bout was a fitting coming out party for the indie superstar, and allowed Punk to make his first appearance on the WWE stage in style.
Had this match taken place in any venue other than Hammerstein Ballroom, it's safe to say that 'The Straight Edge Superstar' would have likely not received such an overwhelmingly positive reception. The fact that it did set him up on the right path, and made for one of the best starts he could have asked for.
