Billed as Punk's last chance to win the ECW Championship, the pressure was on for 'The Voice of the Voiceless' to get the job done when he squared off, one more time, with his long-time rival, John Morrison.

Despite several bouts together, the two had failed to capture lightning in a bottle in their previous outings, having been victims of time constraints and a jarring lack of chemistry. However, on this night, it finally all clicked. The two young grapplers put on a hell of a show with the title on the line.

Given ample time to tell a genuine story from bell to bell, Punk and Morrison gave the performance of their WWE careers up until that point. The bout was a vast improvement on their SummerSlam match a week earlier (that notably lasted half the time). Stiff chops followed by stiffer kicks and a whole lot of drama made this the best of their series - and a win for Punk saw him claim his first championship under the WWE banner.

The clean finish gave Punk the singles victory he needed at that stage of his career, and the genuine reaction of the crowd proved that Punk's ascent up the WWE ladder had well and truly begun.
