Going into the first TakeOver, the state of women's wrestling in the WWE was on shaky footing. Women weren't given a chance to have long matches or try the more exciting moves that their male counterparts were given the opportunity to use night after night. The standard Divas wrestling style as mandated by the company at the time mainly consisted of slaps and hair pulls, with no punching allowed. Whatever created that glass ceiling of perception in the women's division, Charlotte and Natalya emphatically shattered it.

Natalya vs. Charlotte was an excellent match that showed fans what a top level women's match could look like in the modern wrestling scene. The creative team of NXT had the foresight to pull out all the stops to make this match matter. Bringing in Charles Robinson, the senior main roster referee, was a nice touch that added clout and legitimacy to the match, as was having Ric Flair and Bret Hart at ringside cheering on their family members. The match was so good that the Hall of Famers were just window dressing at ringside, a testament to the talent of the women in the ring that night.

After a hard fought match that saw Charlotte and Natalya reversing each other's submissions multiple times to great effect, Charlotte managed to hit Natalya with Natural Selection for the victory. Natalya, the seasoned veteran, did wonders for the NXT women's division and for the future of women's wrestling by putting over the up and coming Charlotte.
