Going into the main event of NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn, the match had a lot working against it before the bell even rang. Kevin Owens had already debuted on the main roster. On top of that, Bálor and Owens had the impossible task of following the juggernaut of a match that Bayley and Sasha Banks had just put on. With that emotional rollercoaster, Owens and Bálor ran the risk of a dead crowd tarnishing what was sure to be a grueling match.

Despite all they had working against them, the competitors did their best, putting on an excellent ladder match for the NXT Championship. With both men having extensive experience with ladder matches on the independent wrestling scene, Owens and Bálor brought a unique feel that WWE ladder matches have been missing for a long time.

The two men sacrificed life and limb to make the match work. After dueling at the top of the ladder, Owens took a nasty looking back bump onto a ladder. Later, Finn found himself alone at the top of the ladder, championship within his grasp. After the brutal beating Owens had given him, Finn had to get one last shot in him, delivering a massive Coup De Grace from the top of the ladder

Finn and Kevin were faced with a Herculean task and they delivered an amazing match that doesn't get mentioned nearly enough, in large part due to the match that they had to follow.
