As it was building momentum, ECW consistently did a great job of plugging holes left by their big names moving on to pastures new. When Dean Malenko, Eddie Guerrero and other technical greats moved on to WCW, the company responded by introducing American wrestling audiences to the glory of Mexican lucha libre.

Rey Mysterio was the standout star, as he would go on to be in almost every company he worked for. He wasn't alone however, as guys like Psicosis and Juventud Guerrera joined him in making the journey north. Juvi was his opponent here at Big !*$% Extreme Bash 1996, and the two duked it out in a best 2-out-of-3 falls match.

When we think of lucha libre in ECW, we think of being amazed at the high flying antics of these masked warriors. What makes this match stand out however is how creative the two were with the arena, fighting out into the crowd and getting various inventive spots in.

This was Rey's last match before heading to WCW, and he leaves with his hand raised high in victory.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
