10 Best Options To Be WWE's Next Top Guy
3. Matt Riddle
After his career in UFC faltered due to the organization's shady politics, Matthew Riddle decided to switch vocations and traded the octagon for the squared circle. The King of Bros absorbed wrestling like a horse to water, winning the Wrestling Observer Newsletter's Rookie of the Year award in 2016, and only getting better since. With breakout performances all over the indies, Riddle has his choice of companies to sign long-term deals with, and ultimately, he chose WWE. Now in NXT, Riddle is set to make his television debut very soon.
Some will claim that Riddle's history of marijuana usage will hold him back in is potential to be top guy. But frankly, that fear is exaggerated. It's 2018, and every wrestling fan knows Riddle smokes pot. And if they don't, they'd most likely shrug at the revelation.
Where Riddle clearly has an advantage is SmackDown's move to FOX next fall. Numerous reports have indicated that the network wants a more sports-oriented presentation and focus than WWE's usual fare. This includes courting UFC Heavyweight Champ Daniel Cormier as a color commentator. Given Riddle's history in UFC, WWE would be foolish to not push him as a key performer on SmackDown in an attempt to court an audience more accustomed to mixed martial arts than sports entertainment.
Plus, from a looks standpoint, Vince probably can't refuse those luscious locks of hair.
