About a month before Roman Reigns' big match against Brock Lesnar, he had to face off against the mega-popular Daniel Bryan to see who would actually be in the upcoming 'Mania main event. The #1 Contendership was on the line and these were two competitors who had no trouble garnering a strong crowd reaction. This was an easy recipe for a hot match.

It's a shame that these two never got the chance to have more one-on-one matches because they knew how to play off of each other. For example, in this match Roman's strength helped him power out of a Bryan crossface submission, transitioning it seamlessly into a devastating round of ground and pound. Later, Bryan attempted one of his running knee strikes to put away his opponent but faced a quick spear counter-attack that won out, setting up the winning pinfall.

It was very obvious at the time that Bryan was only in this contest in an effort to give Roman the best match possible before 'Mania. From that standpoint, it was a huge success. This was also Roman's best singles match up until that point and still remains one of the best of his career.
