10 Best Ruthless Aggression Era WWE PPVs
3. WrestleMania 19
This edition of WrestleMania is somewhat unique, as it had a primary focus on wrestling, and noticeably moved away from what Bruce Prichard would describe as ‘ga-ga.’ However, this emphasis highlights the ability of many of the wrestlers involved and remains one of the best Manias in history.
The show began with Rey Mysterio versus Matt Hardy in a fast-paced Cruiserweight Championship match.
From there, fans were treated to a triple threat tag team title match which pitted Team Angle against Rhyno and Chris Benoit and against Los Guerreros. This match was short for the amount of talent in it, and it wasn’t on the same par as the previous triple threat tag team match from Survivor Series, but it was a welcome display on the card.
From there, a heel Chris Jericho wrestled a classic with a recently-returned Shawn Michaels in a dream match. This was the peak of the card, and is still fondly remembered as one of the best matches in WWE history.
Triple H buried Booker T in a controversial match for the Raw Main Event.
However, the pies de resistance, is the display of mastery between Kurt Angle and the 2003 Royal Rumble winner, Brock Lesnar in the main event. Trading suplexes, slams and strikes, both men kept up with the other and this match culminated in the one of the most memorable botches of all time, when Brock landed on his head after failing to fully rotate on a Shooting Star Press. Even with this botch, this match stands the test of time. Shame about The Undertaker squaring off against Big Show and A-Train earlier on the card…
