Sport: Powerlifting Gimmick: The Strongest Man In The World It is astonishing what Mark Henry has accomplished in both the fields of Powerlifting and Professional Wrestling. His jaw dropping resume, in powerlifting alone, includes lifting the 172 lb Thomas Inch Dumbbell over his head, and being the only human in history to squat more than 900 pounds (without a squat suit), and raw dead lift over 900 pounds. The WWE saw huge potential in Henry, and signed him to a 10 year contract following his appearance at the 1996 Summer Olympics. Henry didn't shoot right to the top, however, he started to gain some traction in 1998 after joining forces with the Nation of Domination, and even defeated The Rock in a PPV match. It seemed as if Henry could now become a true star and leave a pile of bodies behind him. But following a comical gimmick change, which involved him impregnating septuagenarian Mae Young, which resulted in her giving birth to a hand, it seemed as if he would be forever branded as a comic relief character. Henry floundered in the doldrums of mid-card status for years, but had a strong push in 2008, and became the ECW Champion. This signaled a new era of dominance for Henry. It was after being in the company for over 10 years, that the WWE started to really push this monster as the star he could really be. After his now famous "Hall of Pain" angle, and multiple World Championships, he cemented himself as a serious and terrifying beast.
