10 Best Things About The 2002 WWE Brand Split

1. Moving The Company Forward

The best thing about the 2002 brand split was that it moved the WWE forwards. The company had struggled in the shadow of the Attitude Era, and they needed a bold new direction. The brand split provided it.

Before the move, the roster and cards had felt like an overloaded cluster. There were all the WCW guys, all the WWF guys, all the ECW guys, and it just felt like an awkward mishmash. The brand extension organised things, as well as giving scope for the new blood like Lesnar.

The structure made for better shows, with each brand being must see. Equal distribution of stars meant that both brands were essential viewing. It was the first real new era to follow the Attitude Era.

And that's where the 2016 brand split can be a success. The company has lacked any real definition for some time, with the WWE maintaining its current status quo for the best part of a decade. The so called Reality era in 2015 petered out within a few months because nothing really changed. But with the 2016 brand split, there will be real change, and just like in 2002, that should move the company forward. Things are about to get interesting.
