NJPW King Of Pro-Wrestling 2018 confirmed the Wrestle Kingdom 13 main event, as G1 Climax winner Hiroshi Tanahashi defeated 'Switchblade' Jay White to defend his guaranteed title shot briefcase, while Kenny Omega retained the IWGP Heavyweight Championship against Kota Ibushi and Cody.

This is absolutely the right match for the biggest show of the year, and the countdown to 4 January is now on.

Tanahashi and Omega only have one previous singles clash on their records, and that came back in 2016. Thus, their upcoming WK main event is fresh, new, and exciting, and to top it all off, the veteran Tanahashi is in the form of his life at the moment, regularly delivering the kind of high-level babyface performances (rife with second-to-none selling) that make him one of the greatest of all time.

The match is being built around a clash of ideologies. Tanahashi, to whom NJPW owe much of their modern success, has been extremely critical of Omega and his approach to wrestling. Kenny hasn't been shy either, having routinely shot at the company's Japanese wrestlers in recent months, with his quest to 'change the world' sending his ego stratospheric.

It's a battle of tradition versus perceived innovation, basically, and it's going to rule.
