10 Best WCW World Title Matches Ever

3. Bret Hart vs. Chris Benoit (Mayhem 1999)

By late-1999, it was clear that WCW was pretty directionless, and the people running the promotion didn't really a clue what the fans wanted to see. Due to that fact, it's remarkable that a match such as Chris Benoit vs. Bret Hart from the Mayhem event even took place. A tournament to crown a new WCW World Champion took place on the night, involving Hart, Benoit, Jeff Jarrett and Sting. Benoit would turn over Jarrett in the opener, and Hart would fend off Sting in the other semi-final. Incredibly, this then led to a straight wrestling match between Benoit and Hart for the gold. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x55wjn_mayhem-1999-bret-hart-vs-chris-beno_sport The Outsiders and Goldberg would get involved, but they couldn't sully a great match, and an example of what Bret Hart could have meant to WCW had they just let him wrestle against fitting opponents. Sure, Hart wasn't exactly the most motivated at times in the company, but that was partly down to their shoddy treatment of him, not capitalising on his stature whatsoever. Thankfully, Mayhem in 1999 made all the other nonsense evaporate, if only temporarily.
