10 Best Wrestling Matches Of 2022
3. The Elite Vs. Dark Order - AEW All Out
The future for the AEW Trios division isn't so much bright as effervescent, and to put that into further perspective, it actually started horribly and has still yielded breathtaking action for the most part.
The inaugural tournament final wasn't the most spectacular match in its early canon, but it was the tightest, the most dramatic, the loudest. It was a blow-away incredible match relentless in its action.
The storytelling was an immense reward for those who have paid strict attention to the Elite's long odyssey. Almost a spiritual sequel to the seminal Revolution '20 Tag Team title match, this time, Hangman Page encouraged a violent, opportunistic John Silver to work under the gentlemen's agreement. Matt Jackson clutched at Page to prevent him from executing the Buckshot lariat in what was actual in-ring strategy, a moment of suspense, and a reminder that despite the tentative reconciliation, the Bucks and Page have inflicted real trauma upon one another.
And if you didn't, the match was so inch-perfect in its execution that you weren't excluded from the sheer adrenaline that those turbo 20 minutes elicited. Nick Jackson countered Hangman Page's leaping ax handle smash with a thrust kick so on the button it's a wonder he didn't chip his teeth. They might - low-key, to use a young person's word - have the best in-ring chemistry in wrestling.
"High-key", Page and Kenny Omega might. Their show-down, built towards with a genius grasp of crowd psychology, was so electrifying that it generated a louder decibel level than a CM Punk main event in Chicago. The work was stunning too; Omega cleared two thirds of the ring to attack Page with a back elbow just as Page had rebounded from the rope. Again, the timing was out of this world.
In one of the best near-falls of the year, if not the best, Silver rolling through the One-Winged Angel drew an even louder ovation. The Elite map out a sensational twist like no other act in wrestling, but even by their standards, this was unreal.
