10 Best Wrestling Matches Of The Week (July 26)
1. John Cena vs. Kevin Owens (Battleground)
John Cena and Kevin Owens have produced some amazing stuff this year. Their third and final match of their series happened last Sunday with Cena's United States Championship on the line. The best feud of the year came to a close and garnered some mixed reactions for the finish.
As far as the match goes, it was yet another classic. Personally, I'd say that this was the weakest of the three, but please don't take that as a knock on it. I'd peg this bout as a solid 4 stars, maybe 4 1/4. It is still a fantastic match that will be at least considered for everyone's Top 10 lists of this year.
What caused the mixed reactions is the decision to have this feud end with Owens tapping out. It seemed like they could've easily just done a simple pin instead. The concern over the finish could've been brushed off as expected Cena bashing but then news of many internal WWE bigwigs that hope Owens failed emerged within the following days.
Let's hope that Owens' supporters and Owens himself fight to keep him in prominence on the WWE roster. As evidenced by his match at Battleground, he is a talent that has tremendous value.
