10 Best Wrestling Matches Of The Week (July 26)
2. Randy Orton vs. Sheamus (Battleground)
I am a fan of Sheamus and I am a fan of Randy Orton. I typically love seeing any matches they are in but before Battleground I was one of the people that was very skeptical that this match was going to be any good. When I then saw that they were kicking off the event, I assumed that WWE creative had completely lost their minds. I can admit that I was wrong.
This turned out to be a great choice to kick off WWE's most recent special event. Truthfully, I wasn't thinking about this being Orton's hometown and since I didn't notice that the ring announcers conveniently left out that nugget of info, I played right into their little trap. Oh well, ignorance is bliss.
The final moments of the match saw Sheamus torturing Orton with the Cloverleaf. Randy withstood the pain to ultimately win via RKO. I'm realizing how much of a mark I am for the move because I didn't even mind the fact that Randy's legs were unphased at that point by the previous submission attempts.
This win is good for Orton as Sheamus will likely hold the WWE World Heavyweight Championship sometime in the next year. Even if Randy isn't lined up for a title reign he can at least logically challenge Sheamus during his run.
