There was plenty of hugging, high-fiving and hand gestures when Ric Flair returned to WCW Nitro on the 14 September 1998 episode.

After being welcomed back by old friend and former stablemate Arn Anderson, Flair immediately went about the task of bringing back the legendary Four Horsemen group to war with Eric Bischoff and the nWo. This was the kind of thing older fans who had grown up watching the Horsemen rule the NWA could get behind.

Young blood like Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko also freshened up the classic feel of the faction. They were the right workhorses to replace Anderson, and every Horsemen fan must have pleased to see traditional technicians back in the pack after the woeful Paul Roma experiment five years earlier.

Flair was back and Anderson, who had retired from the ring the previous year, would act as the Horsemen's manager going forward. Even the addition of Steve "Mongo" McMichael couldn't ruin things. That job would go to WCW's creative team; they didn't make the most of the emotion stirred by this Horsemen reprise.
