10 Best Wrestling Trilogies
3. John Cena Vs CM Punk (Money In The Bank 2011, Night Of Champions 2012, Raw 2/25/13)
CM Punk's "Pipe Bomb" promo made him one of the most talked-about men in wrestling, and his vow to leave the company as WWE Champion threatened to come true. When he and John Cena clashed at Money in the Bank 2011 in Chicago before a rabid crowd, Punk made good on his promise, winning the championship in a stellar encounter.
They did have a rematch the following month, but I'm being selective in leaving that one off the list. Their next classic match came at Night of Champions 2012, when Punk was a heel champion who had reigned for almost a year and Cena was looking to dethrone him. This match told a completely different story from their first bout - this time, Punk had an answer for everything Cena threw at him, and it was several minutes before the challenger could mount any serious offense. Finally, Cena hit Punk with a German Suplex, but both men had their shoulders down and the match was ruled a draw.
Part three of the feud came in February of the following year. Cena had won the Royal Rumble to earn a shot at the title, but Punk had lost the belt to The Rock. "The Straight-Edge Superstar" was determined to participate in WrestleMania's main event, though, so he challenged Cena on Raw, with the stipulation that a Punk win would make the 'Mania match a triple threat. After another classic contest - one of the best in Raw's history - Cena finally scored a victory over the man who had frustrated him in the past.
