10 Best WWE Championship Reigns Of The 1990s
8. The Undertaker (March-August 1997)
Unfortunately for The Undertaker, his second WWE Championship reign (and first in over five years) began with an absolutely tragic match.
Taker's WrestleMania 13 main event victory over Sycho Sid ranks up there (or down there) with the very worst Mania show-closers, and that's not even taking into account the rumour that Sid cacked his pants during it.
Thankfully, The Deadman overcame this poor start with two back-to-back pay-per-view bangers, first against Mankind at Revenge of the Taker and then against an up-and-coming Stone Cold Steve Austin at A Cold Day in Hell. His King of the Ring match with Faarooq was hardly spectacular, but he got back into the swing of things with a victory over Vader at Canadian Stampede.
Then came SummerSlam, and one of the most important matches in WWE history. Shawn Michaels accidentally costing Taker the belt against Bret Hart sparked a series of events including the first Hell in a Cell match, the debut of Kane, the Montreal Screwjob, and possibly even the birth of the Attitude Era itself.
The Sid match might have stunk to high heaven, but everything else was pretty snazzy.
