Daniel Bryan made his Raw debut as a member of The Nexus, an all-rookie heel faction that brought chaos and carnage to WWE. Sadly, Bryan went a little too far in Nexus' debut attack on John Cena, when he choked ring announcer Justin Roberts with his own tie.

As a result of this, Bryan got fired. He made a brief return to the indies, but WWE clearly realised their mistake and re-hired Bryan a few months later. Just in time for SummerSlam.

At that same SummerSlam, a team of WWE loyalists were scheduled to take on The Nexus in a seven-on-seven elimination tag team match. Going into the event, Team WWE only had six members. You can see where this is going.

Bryan made his return to WWE to face his old faction, turning babyface in the process. He won over the SummerSlam crowd with his impressive in-ring skills and scored two eliminations for his team.

This was the beginning of Bryan's first real run in the WWE. The next month, he would beat The Miz for the United States Championship and would begin his journey to the WWE Championship at WrestleMania XXX.

More on that later.
