There's nothing quite like a good heel turn.

Andre The Giant ripping Hulk Hogan's shirt. The Rock joining The Corporation at Survivor Series. Goldust breaking up The Golden Truth. All legendary moments.

Heel turns have provided some of the biggest and most memorable moments in the entire history of WWE. But what about the company's recent history?

Some have come on huge stages. Some have been executed with perfect brutality. Some have been so shocking that even the smartest fans didn't expect a thing.

The best ones have all those qualities and more...

10. Io Shirai - NXT 2019

We begin our list with the most recent turn, but one that still has a lot of fans talking.

Io Shirai made her NXT debut at TakeOver: War Games II, where she came to aid of Kairi Sane during her match with NXT Women's Champion Shayna Baszler. This set in motion the storyline that would eventually lead to the lovable babyface snapping.

Shirai pursued Baszler and the NXT Women's Championship over the next few months. She failed to captured the belt in a Fatal Four-Way in New York and then in a one-on-one rematch at TakeOver: XXV.

Things reached their tipping point on an episode of NXT TV, when Shirai lost to Baszler in another title match, this time in a steel cage. Shirai was consulted by her good friend, Candice LeRae (who DEFINITELY wasn't just a proxy for Kairi Sane, who'd been called up the main roster).

However, Shirai was in no mood to be consoled. She brutally attacked LeRae, striking her multiple times with a chair and then delivering a brainbuster directly on top of the weapon.

The shocking and violent nature of this heel turn is what makes it so great, but it's been Shirai's heel work following the turn that has landed it on this list. Long may it continue.
