Even though it wouldn't be two or three years until he became WWE Champion and until he really was "that... damn... good...", there's no denying how important winning King of the Ring was for Triple H's career.
Just look at it this way: six months before winning it, he was Hunter Hearst Helmsley, hanging around with Mr. Hughes. Six months after winning it, he was a member of DX alongside his fellow Kliqsters, accompanying Shawn Michaels in his WWF Championship matches.
It still wasn't "time to play the game" - it wasn't even "his time" - but Triple H clearly took advantage of this opportunity to make a name for himself in the company after winning King of the Ring.
