10 Best WWE Money In The Bank Cash-Ins Ever
6. CM Punk - Extreme Rules 2009
CM Punk didn’t have a particularly smooth run to the top of the company. Having cashed in the first of his Money in the Bank contracts in 2008, his resultant run was by no means the best and certainly didn’t bring about the desired success.
But the following year, when the Second City Saint cashed in his second Money in the Bank contract, the outcome was far more positive.
Punk took advantage of a downed Jeff Hardy, who was reeling after a gruelling Ladder match with Edge for the World Heavyweight Championship. A failed cash-in was teased when Hardy kicked out of Punk’s GTS, but he was no match for a second one and Punk picked up the 1-2-3.
Significantly, this win saw Punk embark on his first major heel run with the company. The result was an awesome feud with the aforementioned Hardy, as well as the highly successful Straight Edge Society gimmick that saw Punk become arguably the biggest heel on the roster.
It was this Money in the Bank cash in that made all of that possible.
