Making his in-ring WWE debut at the Royal Rumble must have been special for AJ Styles. It's hard to argue that it was a cool moment for wrestling fans too, especially those who had followed AJ's career in both TNA and NJPW over the years. Seeing him in WWE at long last was sweet.

As good as the Rumble showing was, Styles followed it up with a pay-per-view win over Chris Jericho at Fastlane. The warring veterans formed a short-lived team after the match, which was won by Styles. They'd face off again at WrestleMania, but there was something unique about seeing AJ's first ever win on WWE pay-per-view.

No first can ever happen again, and it was a promising sign for AJ's future that WWE management booked him to win. At the Rumble, he looked great, but was ultimately eliminated by Kevin Owens.

At Fastlane, the spotlight belonged to AJ Styles. He showed those WWE fans unfamiliar with his work what all the fuss was about in the match against Jericho. It was tremendous to see, and helped bed AJ into the roster.
