After a year and a half of comedically skewering their peers and making each other better, Miz and John Morrison were split in the April 2009 Draft. Morrison ended up on SmackDown as a babyface, while Miz brought his villainous attitude to Raw as a singles star. While his initial feud with John Cena was more one-sided than most anticipated, Miz did prove that he could carry his end of a rivalry verbally, without a partner.

By year's end, Miz captured the United States title, his first singles belt in WWE. A year later, after establishing himself as an ideal motormouth heel, Miz cashed in a Money in the Bank briefcase to become WWE Champion, something that few would have guessed one year prior, let alone back when he was SmackDown's irritating Ryan Seacrest-like "host".
