4. July 4, 2002 - Hulk & Edge Win Tag Team Titles
WWE.comThe Undertaker vs. Kurt Angle for the WWE Championship is a match that could headline any pay-per-view event in 2002. That was the main event of a SmackDown on Independence Day ensured that fans would have to take time away from their cookouts and firework watching to catch the show. The first time that the Phenom showed an ability to hang with a technical wrestler the likes of Angle, the match proved to be a coming out party for the Deadman. He wrestled an outstanding match against the Olympic gold medalist and proved that he could keep up with the ever-changing WWE style. Controversy ran wild at its conclusion, however, as Undertaker pinned angle while subsequently tapping out to a triangle choke. The finish would call Undertaker's title reign into question and eventually lead to a Triple Threat match involving the two competitors and a returning Rock. Earlier in the night, Edge realized a childhood dream when he partnered with his idol Hulk Hogan to defeat Billy and Chuck for the WWE Tag Team Championship. It was the latest step in the progression of Edge as a breakout star and evidence that Hogan understood his place in the industry at that point in his career. As a singles star, he was incredibly limited due to age and years of wear and tear. He still had great name value, however, as the fan reaction to him indicated. As a mentor to the younger stars, he could benefit the company exponentially. Partnering with Edge was a passing of the torch moment and one of the feel-good scenes of the year. With a crowd-pleasing Bra and Panties match between Torrie Wilson and Stacy Keibler, the latest chapter in the development of John Cena and a tag team battle involving Batista and Randy Orton, the July 4 episode of SmackDown was one of the most entertaining in WWE history, not to mention one of its best. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x10kp38_undertaker-vs-kurt-angle-7-4-2002-smackdown_sport
