10 Best WWE SummerSlam Moments Of The 90s
1. SummerSlam '92 Draws 80,000 People To Wembley Stadium
This past WrestleMania, WWE broke its attendance record by filling AT&T Stadium with over 100,000 people.
Prior to this event, WWE had boasted their attendance record as 93,173 from WrestleMania III but that figure may have been inaccurately inflated and the true number of fans at the Pontiac Silverdome on March 29th, 1987 was most likely around 78,000. This would've made the 1992 edition of SummerSlam WWE's most attended show in company history.
The advertised main event was a WrestleMania VII rematch between Macho Man Randy Savage and The Ultimate Warrior, this time for the WWE Championship. The actual main event that took place was an Intercontinental Championship match pitting champion Bret "Hitman" Hart Vs. "The British Bulldog" Davey Boy Smith.
The IC title was won by hometown hero Davey Boy in front of 80,000 screaming fans at Wembley Stadium but, despite the loss, the match did more for Bret Hart's career and future than it would Davey's.
For decades, it may have been the true record holder of WWE attendance but even without that official title, the promotion and success of SummerSlam '92 positioned the annual August event second only to WrestleMania, with the gap growing smaller each year.
