10 Best WWE Survivor Series Grand Finales That Didn’t Happen
6. 2003 - Cena And Orton Before They Were World Champions
Faces: John Cena, Chris Benoit Heels: Randy Orton The thought of John Cena wrestling Randy Orton today would make people groan because it's a match that has happened so many times. However, back in 2003 it would have been so fresh, as they were clearly being positioned as superstars of the future yet had had limited interaction with each other. You could just tell that WWE wanted to really get behind both guys and they were both ready for it. Cena was a heel for most of the year, but he turned face in the weeks before this show. As the Doctor of Thuganomics, Cena had managed to organically, gradually turn himself babyface by simply being really damn entertaining. This was also two months before Benoit won the Royal Rumble. At this point in his career, fans really wanted him to reach that main event level and it looked like he might get there. Cena and Benoit were the survivors on Kurt Angle's team that matched up against Brock Lesnar's team of giants. It was a bit of a shock when Benoit made Lesnar tap out to eliminate him, but that really put Benoit over huge. As for Orton, he was the survivor on Eric Bischoff's team that was against Steve Austin's team on the Raw brand. This was when Orton really started to gain momentum as he pinned Shawn Michaels for the decisive fall. How I Would Have Booked It: The faces get the win. As mentioned, Benoit was about to win the Royal Rumble, so it would be foolish to have him lose. Cena would also survive in the match just because of all the momentum he had as a good guy. Orton could have put up a fight, but the two faces would survive. Perhaps Austin could cost Orton the match since Orton's earlier win had banished him from the WWE forever (yeah right).
