The success of tournament winners in WWE has been something of a mixed bag, to be honest.

The most recent King of the Ring, Wade Barrett, departed the company just over a year after taking his crown, whilst Bart Gunn was rewarded for his Brawl For All triumph with a WrestleMania knockout from Butterbean.

In the other column, there's Stone Cold, Kurt Angle, Brock Lesnar, and perhaps soon to join them, Kairi Sane, who won the inaugural Mae Young Classic back in September to become one of NXT's most talked about young upstarts.

After five of her colleagues made the step up to Raw or SmackDown last month, there's also now a clear pathway for Sane to have a run at the NXT Women's Title, and if things go the way many of us are expecting it's very possible that she will end 2018 right in the thick of the main roster action.
