10 Best WWE WrestleMania Midcard Title Matches
7. Triple H Vs Owen Hart (WrestleMania XIV)
With the benefit of hindsight, one can make the argument that this bout ranks highly on the list of times Triple H won a match he had no real right to. Going in to WrestleMania XIV, Owen Hart was on the cusp of superstardom, with an almost staggering potential to avenge his brother Bret's inglorious exit from the company.
Reluctantly staying on with the WWF after The Montreal Screw job, Hart entered into a feud with those he held responsible: Triple H and Shawn Michaels. With the European Championship acting as the crux of their dispute, Hart challenged Triple H to a match at WrestleMania to finally exact vengeance and gain retribution for his family.
Everything was set up for Hart to provide an emphatic crowd-pleasing moment, second only to Austin beating Michaels later in the night. The nefarious Chyna was handcuffed to Commissioner Sgt Slaughter, allowing Hart and Triple H to wrestle uninterrupted.
The match itself never kicked in to that high gear it needed to in order to sell the importance of the feud, but never dipped below entertaining. The ending of the match saw Chyna strike Slaughter before throwing powder in Hart's face.
One low blow and a Pedigree later and what could
have been the precipice to a great singles run went out on a rather sour
note.
