7. Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns looks set to end 2017 as the Intercontinental Champion, and there's perhaps been no better time to let him loose with such a prestigious belt. With two major exceptions, its been another flawless year for 'The Big Dog', particularly on television.

A recent spell of absorbing clashes with The Miz, Elias and Jason Jordan have highlighted how complete a performer Reigns has become in spite of the rampant abuse he'll undoubtedly receive for the rest of his career. Only pay-per-view clangers with The Undertaker and John Cena have hampered his record, but the faults of his opponents were as pronounced as his own in the disappointing affairs.

He pointedly showed remarkable unselfishness in his cinematic feud with Braun Strowman, conclusively losing battles and the war despite being the one chosen to terminate the 'Monster Among Men's undefeated streak in February. More than anything, it represented a new comfort level atop the WWE mountain.

A more effective magic wand for all three men than anybody could have thought, The Shield's recent return afforded him almost universal love from the crowd for the first time in forever. How he'll maintain that around Royal Rumble season remains to be seen, but perhaps due to a couple of well-timed injury breaks in 2017, he doesn't feel half as stale a candidate to hold a top title as he did when last in the hunt.
