10 Best WWE Wrestlers Of 2020 (So Far)
5. Randy Orton
In 2020, Randy Orton has had the best year as a worker he’s had since 2011. The Viper has been notoriously unmotivated in recent years, with only a few matches and promos bringing out the natural talent he has in every aspect of professional wrestling. After the disappointing matches with Kofi, in the most natural narrative of his late career, it was easy to think that Orton’s era of being an essential invigorating part of WWE was over.
We were all wrong as Orton immediately came out the gate with a great performance in the Royal Rumble and several of the best Raw segments of the year, with his acting during his assault on Edge and his dispute with Beth Phoenix being chilling to the core. His match at WrestleMania with Edge had phenomenal character work as well, with his desire to break the body of his former partner for Edge’s own sake being rendered in excruciating detail, in WWE’s equivalent to a Pedro Costa nightmare.
His rematch with Edge at Backlash proved that he could still go in a conventional singles match, with his slower style being used efficiently instead of just being boring. Most importantly, the finish bringing back the Punt and his Raw segment with Christian has invigorated Randy back to being a performer who makes you want to watch Raw every week.
