10 Better Ways WWE Could Utilise The British Fanbase
3. Create A British Stable In The WWE
Cast your mind back to 1997. Bret Hart was at the top of the tree in the then WWF and a rather unique angle was the featured storyline. Bret and the rest of the Hart Foundation (Owen Hart, Brian Pillman, Jim Neidhart and Davey Boy Smith) were booed as heels in America but were treated as heroes everywhere else in the world. It made for a unique dynamic, some raucous crowds and great business both domestically and internationally. A British stable has long been discussed by WWE fans. The closest we have ever had was when William Regal teamed up with Paul Burchill in the mid-noughties, followed by Dave Taylor once Burchill got injured. TNA have done this, with the British Invasion stable of Doug Williams, Magnus and Rob Terry. The WWE currently have Bad News Barrett (currently injured), Paige and NXT Champion Adrian Neville on their books, along with the now more-or-less retired William Regal, who could be a manager for the group if needed. All three of these are very different wrestlers who bring different styles to the ring. Maybe one more person could round it off to four people, although the other Brits who were with Neville in NXT (Danny Burch and Oliver Grey) have since departed the company. If the stable were heels in America but babyfaces in the UK (as has happened with Bad News Barrett, where the UK crowd have cheered him, regardless of what he does), it would make for some very memorable UK shows.
Dean Ayass is a well known name to British wrestling fans. A commentator, manager, booker and ring announcer who has been involved in the business since 1993, Dean's insight into the business is second to none.
