10 Big Talking Points From WWE Fastlane 2017
7. Roman Reigns Pins Braun Strowman Clean
With Roman Reigns facing Braun Strowman and rumoured to be in line to take on the Undertaker at WrestleMania, it seemed likely that Reigns would somehow leave Fastlane victorious and hand Strowman his first PPV defeat.
What didn’t seem quite as likely, though, was that Reigns would do so clean in the middle, pinning Strowman off the back of the Spear for as unanimous a win as you can get.
While most might see this as a bad thing, given all the effort that’s gone into building up Strowman in recent months, the saving grace is that Strowman did enough during the preceding match to look every bit like the monster heel that he is. Of course, it’s a very slim saving grace, because simply looking like a monster doesn’t count for much if you ultimately end up the loser.
In a similar situation to that of Nia Jax, Fastlane has left us wondering whether this really was the right time and the right place to have Strowman lose via pinfall. In hindsight, it would surely have been better to for Reigns to win via disqualification or shenanigans of some sort that would have preserved Strowman’s unpinned status.
