10 Big Talking Points From WWE Raw (July 11)
1. So What Does A Commissioner Do, Exactly?
The show's main event saw Vince McMahon bring Shane and Stephanie out to the ring in order to announce who would be named Smackdown's Commissioner. After weeks of pitches from former GMs and fan speculation about returning stars, we got our answer - Shane's got Smackdown, and Stephanie's got Raw.
That was a bit underwhelming, even if it did make storyline sense. Thankfully, there was an addendum - both Shane and Stephanie will need to appoint General Managers to help run their brands' "day-to-day" affairs. Those GMs will be revealed next week on Raw.
Two authority figures for each brand seems a bit like overkill, so what's going to give? Will Shane and Stephanie McMahon only appear sparingly? Or will the General Managers function more as assistants to get chewed out by angry McMahons? Hopefully it's the former - the idea of brand new authority figures and new dynamics sounds more interesting than wasting personalities to serve rampant egos.
