10 Big Talking Points From WWE Raw (July 4)
6. That's How To Built A Main Event
Last week, I criticized the way WWE chose to promote the Shield Triple Threat match at Battleground. Without Roman Reigns around (and, it should be mentioned, WWE knew he wouldn't be around when they booked the match), the creative team didn't seem to know how to promote the main event. Ambrose and Rollins both ended up scoring tainted wins (over AJ Styles and John Cena, respectively), and as a result, everyone looked weak.
This week, Ambrose and Rollins both scored clean wins in long matches (Rollins beat Dolph Ziggler). After the match, Rollins started complaining about how Reigns was still in the Battleground main event, then ran "The Guy" down. Rollins demanded a one-on-one match until Dean Ambrose, who was doing commentary during "The Architect's" bout, spoke up. He said Rollins could have his one-on-one shot, and he attacked him, planting him with Dirty Deeds on the table.
This was a 180 from last week. Even though Reigns was mentioned, it didn't feel like the company was trying to put him over at everyone else's expense. Ambrose and Rollins were both booked strongly, with the WWE Champion coming off as a bad-ass. We could do with more of this.
