6. Skips Hall Of Fame Ceremony, Has Award Auctioned Off
In one of the most bizarre situations in recent memory, Angle was scheduled to be honored at the 2012 George Tragos & Lou Thesz Professional Wrestling Hall Of Fame. This particular Hall of Fame honors professional wrestlers who have an amateur background and Angle seemed to be the perfect fit for this honor. Angle had been advertised to appear at the ceremony for weeks in advance but, at the last second, Angle pulled out of the event and cited commitments to TNA as the reason. The bizarre thing was that Angle wasn't booked on the TNA house shows that weekend, pissing off the promoters of the event and the fans who had paid money to see Angle accept his award. Things got even weirder when Gerald Brisco took the stage to announce Angle's induction. Instead of doing that, the WWE Hall of Fame member completely buried Kurt Angle for skipping the event and screwing over the paying fans. Brisco then proceeded to auction off Angle's Hall of Fame plaque, taking bids from the audience and eventually selling the plaque for $250. Obviously, fans thought that he was kidding but Brisco announced that the proceeds would go to charity. Angle responded via Twitter:
Jerry Brisco Made a Mockery Out Of Me and the Dan Gable Museum HOF By Auctioning Off My Award. This Award Is a Huge Honor. U Spit on Me ... Due to Obligations I Had With My Wedding, I Could Not Attend HOF. I Even Made a 10 Min Video Proudly Accepting this Great Honor. I'm Disappointed I Couldn't Go, But Devastated Jerry Gave Away My Award. Very Classy Jerry.
The entire episode was completely bizarre and not many people even knew what to make of it,
