10 Biggest Disappointments From Cody Rhodes’ AEW Career
1. The Lost CM Punk Feud
In that rambling promo talked about earlier, Cody alluded to having been the guy who went out and actually did everything CM Punk wanted to do. He also said he’d been advised not to mention this but yet but maybe he knew it was his last chance?
This feud could have been massive and it’s something fans have anticipated ever since CM Punk arrived in the company of not before. With fans rejecting Cody but embracing CM Punk as a near messianic figure, Cody could have turned on the fans as ungrateful for everything he had done. For once in wrestling that heelish claim might have carried some weight.
Cody and Punk have both worked magic with one of AEW’s other great talkers, MJF. It seemed like only a matter of time before they were cutting legendary promos on each other. Having missed the moment in AEW, it’s a pretty safe bet they won’t be facing each other in WWE either.
Did Cody think he may yet resign and get to work that programme? Or, with CM Punk both more beloved by fans and better paid, was Cody genuinely just bitter about it all?
