10 Biggest Final WWE Royal Rumble Entrant Flops
1. Rey Mysterio (2014)
Time spent in match: 02:10
Eliminations: 0
The 2014 Royal Rumble is notoriously saddled with the “worst Royal Rumble ever” tag, as fans revolted at Batista winning the match rather than fan favourite Daniel Bryan, who criminally didn’t even feature in the Rumble match. Rey Mysterio was a casualty of circumstance. Fans held onto hope that Bryan would be #30. So, when Mysterio was revealed as the final entrant of 2014, he was met with a bizarre reaction somewhere between lukewarm and cold.
Mysterio went straight for Seth Rollins, which nearly resulted in his elimination. He had a cool spot where he reversed #1 entrant CM Punk’s GTS into a hurricanrana which sent both men to the apron. However, by this point the arena was deafened by chants for Daniel Bryan. Mysterio spent his time in the match looking winded and limping around the ring before getting back into it with Rollins. ‘The Architect’ used Mysterio’s momentum to backdrop him to the apron and sent him to the floor with an Enzuigiri.
Mysterio’s 2014 experience was not befitting a former winner, who won the 2006 match from #2 and lasted 1:02:12, topping the previous longevity record at that time.
